Indore, Surat and Navi Mumbai have secured the top three positions in urban sanitation under the newly launched Super Swachh League. Indore ranked first, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai. Vijayawada claimed fourth place. The Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024–25 were conferred by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi.

Emerging clean city leaders

Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow were declared as the next-generation Swachh Shehars, showcasing improvement and leadership in sanitation efforts. A total of 78 awards were presented to cities, cantonments, and institutions for excellence in various cleanliness parameters. Major honours included:

  • Best Ganga Town: Prayagraj

  • Top Cantonment Board: Secunderabad

  • Best SafaiMitra Surakshit Shehars: Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur

Inclusive assessment framework introduced

This year’s survey introduced a more inclusive and simplified evaluation method under the “One City, One Award” approach. This enabled smaller cities to compete fairly with larger urban centres. As a result, 34 cities across States and Union Territories were recognised as Promising Swachh Shehars for their significant strides in urban cleanliness.
