Swiggy Genie vanishes from app in major cities including Mumbai, Lucknow; service 'On Break'

The service is now “temporarily unavailable”.

Swiggy has quietly hit pause on its pickup-and-drop service, Swiggy Genie, across most major cities in India, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Lucknow. The service, once available in 70+ cities, now either doesn’t appear on the app or shows as “temporarily unavailable.”

Pickup service on a 'Little Break'

Though Swiggy hasn’t made an official announcement, its support team on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed that Swiggy Genie has been temporarily paused due to “operational constraints,” playfully referring to it as the Genie taking “a little break.” While assuring users that efforts are underway to bring the service back, the company hasn’t shared a timeline. “The Genie’s lamp is just cooling off for a bit... we’ll keep you posted,” read one of its responses.

Launched in 2020, Genie allowed users to send and receive packages, documents, and more within city limits. Its suspension comes just as Swiggy pushes its 10-minute food delivery service, Bolt, hinting at a strategic shift in focus.

This development also mirrors Zomato’s recent move to shutter its quick-delivery services, Everyday and Quick, highlighting broader challenges in the hyperlocal delivery space.
