Tesla is gearing up for its much-awaited debut in India! After clearing the final hurdles, the Elon Musk-owned electric car giant is set to open its doors soon. Reports suggest that the company is prepping to launch its retail showroom in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), with the space expected to span around 5,000 square feet. The exact opening date remains under wraps for now.
In addition to the new showroom, Tesla has posted job listings for 13 mid-level roles, including store and customer relationship managers, indicating it's all systems go.
Tesla’s plans for India have been on the cards since 2022, but challenges such as high import duties, regulatory roadblocks, and limited EV infrastructure had stalled progress. However, with the government now rolling out EV-friendly policies, the stage is finally set for the brand's entry into India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
The premium EV segment is expected to be Tesla's starting point in India, with prices for its cars pegged at around ₹21 lakh ($25,000). The popular Model 3 could retail for ₹60 lakh, while the high-end Model X might see a price tag of up to ₹2 crore, depending on import duties and government incentives.
In addition to Mumbai, Tesla is also eyeing a store opening in New Delhi's Aerocity.
