To celebrate Ganeshotsav in Mumbai with even more fun and fervour this season, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has built 162 artificial ponds across the city to immerse Ganpati idols.

Given the two year COVID-19 shutdown, devotees from all over the country thronged Mumbai’s famous Lalbaugcha Raja this time. In order to reduce water pollution, BMC has urged people to make use of these artificial lakes and ponds for visarjan. Besides this, the authorities are also delivering prasad online this year!

Marking the birth of Lord Ganesha, Ganesh Chaturthi is a week long festival, celebrated on the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar in the month of Bhadrapada. It is celebrated far and wide, with much fanfare in Maharashtra and other parts of western and southern India. Hence, large number of devotees tend to get together to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha and finally bid au revoir to their idols.

For the same, BMC has put together 162 artificial ponds in the city. As per reports, 55,623 idols were immersed in Mumbai on the the initial days of the Utsav, including 22,687 that were immersed in artificial ponds.

‘Lalbaugcha Raja’ — Mumbai’s most famous Ganeshotsav — is back after a two year long hiatus. What’s interesting is that, this year, they are making ladoo prasad available online exclusively for people from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. And Jio Mart and Paytm have collaborated with them to deliver the prasad at your doorsteps!
