Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) is gearing up for a traffic revamp as the MMRDA has started dismantling its 13-km cycle track, built in 2011 at ₹60 crore. The underutilised track will make way for two additional vehicular lanes in G Block, cutting peak-hour commute times from 25 to 15 minutes and reducing signal wait times by 30%.

Despite its eco-friendly intent, the track was often misused for parking. The revamp costing ₹25 crore will expand the road to 3+3 lanes, accommodating 900 more vehicles per hour. Additional measures include one-way routes and auto-rickshaw restrictions.

With BKC’s daily footfall of 6 lakh, the changes target key congestion spots like the NSE and Diamond Bourse junctions. However, critics question if lane expansion alone can solve the gridlock, as last-mile connectivity remains weak ahead of Metro Line 2B’s 2026 debut.
