Ride-hailing platform Uber introduced ‘Uber for Teens’ on Wednesday, a dedicated service catering to Indian teenagers aged 13 to 17. This service enables parents to set up a 'Teen's Account', allowing them to request rides on behalf of their children, track trips in real time, and receive detailed ride summaries.
The service is now available in 37 cities across India, including major cities such as Mumbai, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
Equipped with GPS tracking, real-time monitoring, and an in-app emergency button, the service offers peace of mind to parents. Parents with a verified Uber account can invite their teen to join the app, where the teenager sets up their own account and adds their parent as a guardian.
Initially launched in the United States in 2023, 'Uber for Teens' has been expanded internationally following a strong consumer survey. The survey revealed that 92% of parents had experienced difficulties in arranging reliable transportation for their teens, while 72% cited safety as their foremost concern.
