Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium is set to celebrate its golden jubilee in grand style this January, marking 50 years of its legendary cricketing history. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has unveiled an exciting eight-day celebration packed with memorable events from January 12 to 19. Additionally, a 50th-anniversary logo was launched, to commemorate the occasion.
The stadium, which has witnessed countless cricket legends and historic moments – from India's electrifying 2011 World Cup victory to Sachin Tendulkar's emotional farewell match in 2013 – will host a series of special events including a unique cricket match between MCA officials and Consul Generals.
In a heart-warming gesture, the celebration will honour the stadium's unsung heroes - the groundsmen and security staff who have quietly maintained this cricket fortress for decades. The grand finale on January 19 promises to be spectacular, featuring cricket legends, Bollywood stars, a musical extravaganza by Ajay-Atul and a laser show. A commemorative postal stamp and coffee table book will also be released to mark this historic milestone.
