Weather Update | Mumbai Monsoons Likely To Make a Splash In The Next 72 Hours

Prerona

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Mumbai is likely to experience the brunt of southwest monsoons, within the next 72 hours. The season's entry into the state occurred on June 11, just a day later than its customary June 10 onset. However, the pattern of rainfall has been sporadic and scanty, at most pockets throughout the city.

Reportedly, Cyclone Biparjoy has contributed to moisture depletion this year, leading to sluggish monsoon activity. The neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar are also expected to witness light to moderate spells of rain along with other districts of Maharashtra, till Friday.

Mumbai Rains

As per reports of an IMD official, there will be an increase in monsoon activity along the Arabian Sea coast, in the next 72 hours. Additionally, active monsoon currents in Mumbai, Pune, South Central parts of Maharashtra, Konkan, Marathwada, and other regions, are anticipated. Further, it has been predicted that the full-fledged progress of the southwest monsoon will set forth from June 23.

According to an official statement, the condition is steadily becoming favourable for the onset of Mumbai monsoons, under the cover of gloomy Monday skies. At the same time, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Sangli, Solapur, Latur, Nanded, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts, highlighting the possibility of heavy spells of rain coupled with thunderstorm and gusty winds, moving at a speed of 40 kmph.
