In a last-minute change, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Mumbai will replace Bengaluru as a host city for the Women’s ODI World Cup, set to begin on September 30. This marks the tournament’s return to India after 12 years.

Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium failed to secure the necessary security clearances after a tragic stampede during IPL celebrations in June, leading to its removal as a venue for the tournament.

DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will now host up to five matches, including the tournament opener, a semi-final, and potentially the final. ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed confidence that the new line up of venues would showcase the best of women’s cricket, with Navi Mumbai’s growing reputation as a hub for women’s sports further elevating the event’s energy.

Other confirmed venues include Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo, the neutral venue for the India-Pakistan match. This change follows the Karnataka State Cricket Association's inability to obtain clearances in time, after investigations deemed the Chinnaswamy Stadium unsuitable for large events.
