"Work from Station"? New co-working spaces planned at 17 Mumbai train stations, know features

In a move inspired by European railway stations, Western Railway (WR) to soon roll out co-working spaces at elevated decks of select Mumbai stations. These new Digital Lounges will be a spot for office-goers to work while waiting for their trains.

The initiative is part of the Station Improvement Project, which includes construction of elevated decks at 17 stations by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation at a cost of ₹947 crore.

Mumbai's upcoming Digital Lounges: Key Features

  • These Digital Lounges will provide an air-conditioned space with electric plug points to charge laptops and phones.

  • The new lounges will feature a large, quadrilateral space with long tables and multiple seating arrangements.

  • Each lounge will accommodate 20 to 50 people.

  • For more privacy, mini cubicles will also be available.

  • Commuters can access these lounges on an hourly basis, with refreshments such as hot or cold drinks and snacks available for purchase.

  • These decks will help reduce platform congestion by relocating essential amenities like food stalls, toilets and more.

  • The project will operate on a non-fare revenue model, with private operators managing the co-working spaces.

  • Priority locations with high footfall and nearby commercial areas include Andheri, Goregaon, Borivali, Bandra Terminus, and Mumbai Central.
