Mumbai's iconic skyline is all set to receive another cultural gem, with a 'Shunya Bridge' (Zero Bridge), honouring mathematician Aryabhata. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is building this new bridge on the elevated metro line between D.N. Nagar and Mandale.
The planned Shunya Bridge will be in remembrance of Aryabhata and his invention of 'zero'. Furthermore, the elevated metro railway line on which the bridge will come up will be 23.5 km long, connecting Mumbai's western and eastern suburbs, including Andheri, Bandra Kurla, and Chembur.
As for the exact location, the zero bridge will come up at Vakola in Santacruz East. According to reports, the zero-shaped structure on the bridge won't merely add aesthetic and cultural charms to the city's skyline but also protect the mangroves underneath.
The design for the bridge has already been finalised by a private firm and MMRDA officials are positive that it will become a popular Mumbai landmark once ready.
