From miso heat to rich Japanese broths

Rainy day, bad day, pay day, or just any random day, a hot bowl of ramen can make things so much better. And in Mumbai, the obsession has gone well beyond a passing food trend. Blame late-night anime binges, a growing love for Japanese cuisine, or simply the joy of a slow-simmered broth, but the city has built a serious ramen scene. From fiery miso bowls and delicate chintans to rich, slurp-heavy comfort in tucked-away izakayas, there is plenty to explore. So if you have been hunting for the best ramen spots in Mumbai, these 9 places are a very good place to begin.

Izumi

At Izumi, much loved for its Japanese fine dining, the Tokyo Chicken Chintan Ramen (₹1020) is a quick comfort meal. A light chicken broth layered with shoyu and thyme-infused chicken fat carries homemade noodles, chicken charsu and rich chicken liver pâté dumplings, making for a bowl that is deeply savoury. Best for a long lunch or an even longer date.

When: Noon to 3:30 pm, 7 pm to 11:30 pm
Where: Ground Floor, Sunrise Cooperative Society, Khar West

Harajuku Tokyo Cafe

If the ideal ramen bowl, for you, comes with a fiery broth and a little theatre, make this your first stop. Harajuku Tokyo Cafe’s Kara Miso Ramen with tofu or chicken brings handmade noodles, smoky grilled protein, lotus root, mushrooms, crispy nori chips and chilli crisp together in a bowl. The miso broth has proper depth, the heat builds nicely, and every slurp feels rewarding. There is also a gluten-free broth option if you ask. Add in the playful Tokyo-inspired setting and it makes a strong opening act for this ramen trail.

Where: Second Floor, Jio World Drive

Tiger-Yaki

The Spicy Miso Ramen at Tiger-Yaki, available in both veg and non-veg variants, layers a punchy miso broth with fresh hand-pulled noodles, togarashi corn, sautéed shiitake mushrooms and braised tofu or chicken. At ₹449, it is also a bit of a steal deal. A lot of flavour and absolutely no regrets.

When: Noon to 11 pm
Where: Dharamjyot, New Kantwadi Road, Pali Hill, Bandra West

Kuuraku

There is a certain old-school precision to Kuuraku that regulars swear by. Known for bringing Japanese izakaya spirit to Mumbai, the place does comfort with remarkable finesse. It’s Kuuraku Special Ramen (₹920) with springy noodles in a savoury chicken broth, topped with a flavoured egg, leek, spring onion and meltingly tender braised pork is worth every sip. If your idea of good ramen leans traditional, this one deserves a place on the list.

When: 12:30 pm to 3 pm, 6 pm – 11 pm
Where: Suburbia Building, Swami Vivekananda Road, Bandra West

Mizu

Founded around the spirit of a traditional Tokyo izakaya, Mizu has built a reputation for thoughtful plates and bold, layered flavours. The Yakitori Chicken Ramen is a standout, priced at ₹956 for a mini and ₹1293 for a full bowl, with hand-pulled noodles in chicken broth, topped with yakitori chicken, wood ear mushrooms, fermented garlic oil, ajitsuke eggs and menma. It is rich, smoky and deeply satisfying, with plenty going on in every spoonful. If you like your ramen with a little finesse and a lot of flavour, this one earns its place.

Where: Ganga Jamuna Building, 14th Road, Khar West

Megumi

Known for its polished Japanese dining and inventive approach, Megumi does a rather excellent Shoyu Miso Ramen (₹825) that even non-vegetarians tend to order without hesitation. Built on dashi, vegetables and sesame oil, the broth has lovely depth. And for those chasing a good vegan bowl in Mumbai, this one is very much worth bookmarking.

Pa Pa Ya

Pa Pa Ya has long been a favourite for its polished take on Pan-Asian dining, and its ramen holds its own too. The Katsu Chicken Ramen (₹1035) brings together crisp chicken katsu, springy noodles and a deeply savoury broth. It is hearty, layered and rather satisfying, especially if you like your ramen with a little extra texture. A solid pick when you want your noodle fix in a slightly dressier setting.

Kofuku

If you like your noodle bowls with a bit of heat, Kofuku’s Korean Rabokki Ramen is worth ordering. A favourite for Japanese and Korean comfort food, Kofuku does a lively bowl with wheat ramen noodles, Korean rice cakes and a spicy broth loaded with vegetables, with veg, chicken, pork or prawn options. At ₹580 for veg and ₹630 for non-veg, it is also one of the more approachable bowls on this list.

Wagamama

Yes, it sits a little outside the usual neighbourhood circuit, but Wagamama has earned its cult following for a reason. The globally loved brand rarely disappoint and the Chilli Tantanmen proves exactly why. Ramen noodles submerged in an extra-rich broth, topped with menma, kimchi, spring onion, coriander and chilli oil, with your pick of yasai mushroom, minced chicken or lamb. It is spicy, silky and deeply satisfying.
