Delhi becomes the most tourist friendly state!

Increasing air pollution has kept Delhi in the headlines for quite some time now. However, tourism sector this time has got some good news for Delhites. The battle for environment is still on and amidst all this Delhi has been ranked number 1, among 30 Indian states, as the most tourist friendly.

Although other north Indian states ranked poorly, due to their air and rail connectivity, Delhi rose to rank 1, leaving behind Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.

It is a matter of surprise how Maharashtra slipped down to number two, loosing its position to Delhi, even though the state boasts of a strong economy, good infrastructure and has a presence of luxurious and branded hotels.

The survey was released by World Travel and Tourism Council India Institute and made evaluation of states on the basis of the following points-

Per capita gross state domestic product, expenditure in tourism, rail and road infra connectivity, extent of urbanization, tourist arrivals, literacy rates, effectiveness of marketing campaigns, etc. Despite its ranking there are many parameters that put a big question mark on the country’s capital, which include- perception of safety and security, political stability and inability to make qualified human resources available for the travel and tourism industry.
