Lucknow's premier healthcare facility, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, will soon house the biggest dialysis centre in the state. As per the available information, 111 dialysis stations will be established at this upcoming centre. While the slated development will help in reducing the waiting time for kidney patients, it is expected that the new facility will have the capacity of performing 200 dialysis sessions every day.
450 beds to be set up at this modern kidney transplant centre
Amidst a string of developments at the institute, a modern kidney transplant centre is being built in front of the new OPD. According to PGI Director, Dr. R.K. Dhiman, the dialysis facilities would be started this year. Further, Dr. Narayan Prasad, Head of the Department of Nephrology, PGI, told that the kidney transplant centre will have more than 450 beds and 111 dialysis stations.
Patients on the waiting list for a kidney transplant to be prioritised
To be operational round the clock, the centre will be managed under 3 shifts. As per records, 600 patients are currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant and such individuals will be prioritised for dialysis. It has been informed that the process for procuring related equipment and hiring doctors, staff and other employees for the new facility will be started soon. Presently, the service of dialysis is available at SGPGIMS, King George's Medical University, Balrampur Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Institute, here in Lucknow.
Besides, the facility is also provided at 25 private hospitals in the city with rates ranging between ₹5,000 and ₹15,000. On the other hand, it costs ₹1600 at SGPGIMS while the price is lower at KGMU and a free facility can be availed at Balrampur Hospital.
