Five La Martiniere College alumni make the country, and their school proud

5 of La Martiniere’s alumni have made their way into the President’s honours list, making for a groundbreaking feat. Since La Martiniere is one of Lucknow’s top educational institutions, it is no surprise that the students have made their school and the country immensely proud.

The 5 alumni from different batches received their awards on the same day, making it a historic day for the school. Principal Carlyle McFarland displayed his pride for the students on Facebook when he sent out various posts thanking them for their bravery and their contribution to the school.

The alumni who made their way into the Honours’ list are Maj Tushar Gauba, Gp Capt Anubhav Tripathi, Lt Gen Bipin Puri, Prashant Singh and Dushyant Singh. Maj Tushar Gauba became one of the two Kirti Chakra Awardees. The Kirti Chakra is awarded as the second highest peacetime gallantry award in the country. Maj Gauba belonged to the school’s 2005 batch. Maj Gauba was awarded the Kirti Chakra for his unparalleled bravery in the face of terrorist attacks as he dealt with a group of terrorists in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt Gen Bipin Puri, VSM, on the other hand was conferred the PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal) for his services to the country. Additionally, the General shared the good news with the school stating that he was thankful to his roots, his alma mater.

The other two awardees were Prashant Singh, who left LMC in 2002 and Dushyant Singh who passed out of the school in 1978. Prashant Singh is an assistant commandant in the CRPF and he was awarded the Internal Security Medal. Additionally, he was also LMC’s swimming team vice captain in 2001.

The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Dushyant Singh, a student of the 1978 batch. In the 2011, he was awarded with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Police Medal for Gallantry in 1987. The principal of LMC mentioned that it is an immense honour for the same officer to get all three awards and that the school is proud of his contribution.

Certainly, this marked a new beginning and a milestone event for LMC and their legacy. Their students have given the country and the school much to be proud of and we, like LMC’s principal couldn’t be more ecstatic about it.
