General stream degree course students in Goa to get a 50% fee rebate this academic year

As per reports, a large count of students from BA, B.Sc and B.Com programmes will benefit from this waiver.

In view of the financial troubles ushered by the pandemic, the Goa state administration has announced that the students of the general stream degree courses will receive a 50% rebate in fees, for the current academic session. Reportedly, the Chief Minister declared this scheme in a bid to resolve the issues faced by pupils of BA, B.Sc and B.Com programmes. As per reports, it is expected to benefit nearly 40,000 students in the coastal state.

Tuition fees, gymkhana fees & cultural fees to be waived

The CM tweeted, "In view of the ongoing pandemic and prevailing extraordinarily difficult circumstances, the government has taken the decision to waive off 50% of tuition fees, gymkhana fees and cultural fees for the current academic admission in all colleges under the purview of the directorate of higher education, Goa." As per reports, the sum total of the three categories of fees stands at nearly ₹4,000-₹5,000 in state-funded and state-run colleges.

Officials from various institutes have reported that rural students are faced with multiple difficulties given the problems propelled by the pandemic. Thereby, the fee waiver had become necessary in order to support them. Additionally, reports state that the wards of individuals, who were employed in the informal sector, have suffered majorly on the financial front and now, this intervention will aid them to continue their studies.

UG classes to start on September 1 in Goa

Reportedly, the admission process has already started in Goa and the classes for degree programs will start on September 1, as per the current schedule. While the fee waiver will help the students, similar initiatives are also required for other sections of society, assuring comprehensive economic support for all.

The 16th National Aerobics, Fitness and Hip Hop Championships are all set to take place in Lucknow from 14-16th of January. The championships will be hosted at the KD Singh Babu Stadium. To promote the sport in the state, a new executive committee for the Uttar Pradesh Aerobics Association has also been formed. The Kanpur Metro conducted its first trial run along the depot test track on Monday, ahead of the RDSO trials slated next month. Reportedly, the brand new three-coach train of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation fleet covered a total of 3,900 meters by completing three laps of the 650-meters-long test track. As per the project timeline, the Kanpur metro division is expected to commission public services by the end of this year or early January, next year.

A new ESZ managing committee has further been set up by the ministry to regulate activities eco-tourism, infrastructure expansion and prohibit the establishment of new polluting industries in the protected zone.
