Goa witnessed the sharpest single-day incline in the number of fresh coronavirus infections on Wednesday. The tallies surged to a new high, beyond the 3000-mark, for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, marking the worst COVID day here. As many as 3,014 people tested positive for the infection, pushing the aggregate to 85,009 cases. This, in turn, has raked up the active caseload by over 68% in a single day, totalling up to 18,829 patients across all state treatment facilities.

Starting 10 PM today, Goa will be clamped under an 81-hour long lockdown to break the chain of the coronavirus infection. All other activities, except for those deemed as essential, will also be suspended. People are requested to not panic-buy or hoard any supplies as grocery stores, pharmacies, hotels, restaurants, kitchens and industries have been exempted from the prohibitory orders. The public has been advised to stay indoors and step out only if there is an emergency while people involved in essential services have been directed to exercise maximum precautions and adhere to all COVID protocols and guidelines.
