E-commerce & food delivery firms in Goa may soon deploy an all-electric fleet

Reports state that nearly 50% of the Goa ferryboats will also be converted to electric vehicles by 2025.

In line with its electric mobility plans, the Goa government is mulling over a new policy for amplified electrification of vehicles. As per reports, the state administration is planning to direct food delivery and e-commerce companies to deploy electric vehicles for their daily operations. According to the plan, such firms will be asked to upgrade to an all-electric fleet, within a period of next two to three years.

Plans to be executed in a phased manner

According to reports, this project will be implemented in a graded manner and 25% of the fleet will have to be transformed in the first year. Followed by this, 50% of vehicles will be converted in the second year and the cent per-cent target will be met at the end of the third year. A declaration in this regard has been made at a recent virtual meeting conducted to draft the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy.

Further, it has been reported that vehicles used by municipal corporations for waste collection might also be included in this scheme. Besides, the state government is also planning to execute a comprehensive subsidy program, covering two, three and four-wheeler vehicles.

Notably, the Goa government is working on a large-scale electrification policy, wherein both public and private establishments will be benefitted. Reports state that nearly 50% of the Goa ferryboats will also be converted to electric vehicles by 2025.

With the setting up of service stations, upkeep units and other related facilities, over 10,000 new employment opportunities will be opened up in the state. The infrastructure upgrade will also witness the establishment of an increased number of charging stations, added reports. Once the policy is finally rolled out, a string of green advantages are expected in Goa.

Moving towards free-test drive in Goa

Meanwhile, the government has mandated a period of 90 days for settling customer-related issues, easing the process for prospective buyers. This time stretch might be reduced to 30 days, after taking recommendations from the public. In addition to this, the authorities may also ask companies to offer free test drives, in an attempt to introduce citizens to the new technology.
