Mystic Woods by Butterfly Conservatory of Goa is one such prime example of this beauteous state giving us something to marvel at. This one-of-a-kind conservation project was started by Dr. Jyoti and Yashodan Heblekar and the duo’s aspirations led them to transform a barren hillslope into a forest, that is now home to an umpteen species of butterflies. Lying about 29 km from Panjim, the Mystic Woods will breathe life back into the child within you!
Home to plenty of bewitching butterflies!
Started with an intention to provide butterflies with their required air and soil conditions for existence, the conservatory is built on the lines of a natural setting. Here, the winged beauties are free to roam about and carry out the breeding process.
Jyoti and Yashodan, the conservationists who have built this home for the local butterflies, have also put an innovative rainwater harvesting system in place! When here, you can check that out too, before or after wolfing down a home-cooked meal prepared by the warm hosts, which would make you want to stay back a little longer.
Knock Knock
This thoughtful attempt by the Heblekars, was to educate people about the importance of these graceful creatures, who are now not spotted as frequently as they were a few decades ago. A haven for kids who are completely awed by the sight of gorgeous butterflies, this arresting locale is one that you have to add to your must-visit-list!
After implementing the covid norms, the conservatory now allows hour-long slots for visitors that start from 9 AM till 5 PM and the slot has to be prebooked and paid for. With an entry charge of ₹500 for a family, i.e., 2 adults and 2 children, one can pay ₹100 extra for each member added to this group. To book your tickets and to know more, click here.
