In a bid to strengthen women empowerment at the grassroots, the Chief Minister of Goa has launched an innovative online platform www.goabazaar.org. As per reports, this virtual facility will help the females working in self-help groups with a quick and easy way to market homemade and locally developed products. Reportedly, the CM also stated that the administration will ensure the availability of spaces at public spots so that stalls for selling SHG-made products can be set up.
A comprehensive guide to a range of locally produced goods
As per reports, the CM of the coastal state mentioned that natively manufactured items will be able to garner an international clientele with the introduction of the website. Aggregating a range of consumer goods, the website displays a list of items including homemade Goan delicacies, handicrafts and home decor products.
Additionally, reports state that organic farm produce, embroidery products and some other services will also be available. As per reports, goods from more than 150 SHGs will be shown on the online interface. Further, it is expected that more items will be added in the future. Interestingly, the consumers can locate the product of their choice on the website and information about the artist will also be provided.
An attempt to accelerate women empowerment in the state
The government is also working to provide land at public places like bus stops for conducting retail of such products. Reportedly, the Rural Development Minister has requested the CM to assign land at 10 varied spots for the inception of stalls.
As per reports, the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM) has engaged nearly 3,000 SHGs and a large count of households are being benefitted. One of the major objectives of this initiative is to propel financial independence amongst women. With the economic upliftment of the females, the government envisions fueling a boost for the rural economy and improving the local industry.
