Goa expects days of respite as the positivity rate dwindles to 20% within a month!

903 new infections and 1,777 recoveries were reported in Goa on Tuesday.

Succeeding weeks of accelerated infections, Goa's case tally is taking a downward trajectory now and the count of active patients is reducing every day. As per reports, a positivity rate of 20% was registered in Goa on Monday, which is significantly lower than the figure recorded a month back. Reportedly, Goa witnessed a positivity rate of 50% on April 30, which led to the uncontrolled spread of the disease and a high number of casualties, through the past month.

In spite of the reverting caseload, the Goa government is executing stringent interventions to make sure that a high rate of infections is not revived again. While the state stands clamped under curfew restrictions till June 7, the authorities are trying to increase the scope and speed of vaccination drives. Additionally, the administration is also alarmed by the anticipations of a third wave and thereby, multiple programs are being worked out to block the spread of contagion.

Relievingly, not a single case of Mucormycosis or the black fungus infection has been reported in Goa since the last week. As per reports, 12 patients of the deadly disease have been registered across Goa. In view of this, the state government is also taking measures to prevent the escalation of this infection.

Vaccination, the only way to combat contagion

Reportedly, officials stated that maximum deaths in the state happened due to the high disease severity or the presence of challenging comorbidities during the second wave. While immunisation may not completely protect the citizens from catching infections, it will definitely help in minimalising the disease severity. Thus, inoculation is a necessary and highly beneficial step to safeguard oneself against the effects of the virus.
