Goa Robotic Surgery Centre becomes the first in the state to get advanced Versius system

The project is being implemented under the able and efficient leadership of Dr. Kedar Padte.

Goa Robotic Surgery Centre has become the first medical hub in the state to be equipped with the facility of CMR Versius surgical robotic system. Implemented under the efficient guidance of Dr. Kedar Padte, the system has brought to the coastal state, an innovative medical amenity that works on artificial intelligence. Celebrating this achievement, an event brought together a string of dignitaries like the Dean of Goa Medical College, Dr. S.M. Bandekar, Goa Health Minister and others.

Accessibility to the masses shall ensure growth in this field

Reportedly, Dr. Padte informed that the CMR Versius robotic system comes with sidearms and a specialised console. The surgeon doesn't have to be in contact with the patient's body and the entire work is done by robotic arms themselves. While the surgeon operates the joystick giving commands to the robot, the steady arms complete the process with precision.

The event was marked by the presence of some of the top laparoscopic surgeons in the country. During the early days, the medical fraternity was unsure of using robotic surgery systems but with multiple developments being seen in the field, the situation has flipped now. Reportedly, Shailesh Puntambekar, India's first robotic oncosurgeon stated that robot technology can be used for performing all surgeries in the body except during the process of childbirth. He added that the growth of this technology can only be ensured if it is taken to the masses. Dr Puntambekar will be visiting the coastal state on a monthly basis to assure sufficient and proper training of the surgeons that would use this latest innovation.

Need to upgrade robotic facilities in medical centres across the country

As per reports, the Dean of Goa Medical College talked about the initial days of the project. He stated that only about 100 hospitals in the country use this technology which makes it important to execute steps that can upgrade the infrastructure. Goa's incumbent Cabinet Minister for Revenue, IT, Labour and Employment was also present at the event. She promised support for the project and talked about the state's aspirations in various fields.
