Goa's test capacity to be increased as the state's COVID-19 cases surges over 7,000

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the sunny state of Goa has cast a gloomy cloud all over, as the stats have surged past 7,000. Although the cases are on a steady rise, Goa's testing capacity still stands at 2,500 samples per day and presently, the state is also lagging behind with 1,600 samples to be tested. So the testing capacities are said to be hiked in the near future, to detect and curb the further spread of the virus.

A new Plasma Extraction machine to be set up

On Monday, the state CM held a meeting with the health minister and other officials regarding the current scenario of Goa. It was then decided that a string of new measures will be introduced to handle this alarming situation. Testing capacities will be increased and a new plasma extraction machine will also be set up. 2 COVID-19 patients have also been treated with plasma and till now, they're showing stable results.

The Airports Authority of India has also set new quarantine guidelines for passengers flying to this state. According to the new directives, all arriving travelers are also required to undertake 14 days of home quarantine or they can opt for 14 days of paid institutional quarantine. Passengers shall be exempted from home quarantine only if they are "able to produce a Covid-19 negative certificate issued by ICMR-recognized laboratories, not older than 48 hours prior to the arrival in Goa". Pre-booking of accommodation is also mandatory for tourists and the proof of pre-booking the hotel, will be checked at the entry points.
