No procession to be held in Goa during Milad-un-Nabi, later this month

On the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, which will be observed on the 30th of October this year, processions in Goa have been barred. This decision has been officiated by the Association of All Goa Muslim Jamats, on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, as per an official statement issued on Wednesday. The Jamat president, Shaikh Bashir Ahmed, has further mentioned that although mosques in Goa have been welcoming devotees living nearby, for the regular five times a day namaz, covid protocols still need to be followed. This includes social distancing, use of face masks and regular use of hand sanitizers.

"The president along with the executive members of our association has decided not to have any 'ulus or procession on October 30 to celebrate Milad-ul-Nabi in Goa. This advisory has been issued to all the masjid committees, jamats and organisers of processions in the state," the official statement said.

"This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of our community members and the society at large. We urge all to continue to be cautious in their day-to-day life by strictly implementing social distancing, compulsory use of face masks and use of hand sanitisers as the fear of the virus is still around us, and hence we can't be complacent," it added.

This decision was much needed because as of today, Goa has reported 41,339 covid cases and the death toll has risen to 557, of which 2 deaths have occurred in the last 24 hours. 37,683 patients have successfully battled the disease and within a day's span, 408 victims have recuperated. 3,099 cases in the state, are still tagged as active.
