On Friday, the Chief Minister of Goa encouraged eligible beneficiaries to get inoculated at the earliest, as the government is planning to vaccinate all citizens in the age group of 18-44 by 30 July. If Goa is able to achieve 100% vaccination by its target date, then it shall become the first state in India to have achieved this landmark.
Hence, in a bid to quicken the vaccination process, the state has prioritised phase-wise immunisation, so that the maximum number of people can benefit with the least amount of disarray caused.
Vaccination for priority age groups
The Goa government is vaccinating citizens through the execution of a phase-wise plan in different sections of society. So far, this plan has been for parents of young children, operators of public transport such as- motorcycle taxis and rickshaws, seafarers and the differently-abled.
The scope of inoculation has been widened as the centres have opened up for parents of children till the age of five. Further, people with comorbid conditions are also being vaccinated on priority and reportedly, almost 1300 people have gotten vaccine jabs under this category.
Meeting on 6 June to discuss the extension of lockdown
As per the latest reports, the case tally of infections in Goa stands at 1,58,423, as of 4 June, with 576 new cases reported. With 9,099 active cases looming over the state, decisions regarding the extension of lockdown are yet to be taken.
A review meeting shall take place on 6 June to decide whether the lockdown restrictions should be lifted on the intended date, i.e., 7 June. The government shall assess the current situation and statistics, before arriving at a final decision.
