Goa records its sharpest single-day COVID-19 spike on Wednesday with 3,496 new cases!

At present, the aggregate tallies in the coastal state have mounted to 1,04,398 infections while the active load has shot up to 27,964 cases.

The mark of the coronavirus graph surged in Goa on Wednesday, when the state recorded its sharpest-ever single-day spike with 3,496 new detections. Despite several lockdown-like curbs and additional restrictions, Goa continues to shy away from a COVID respite. At present, the aggregate tallies in the coastal state have mounted to 1,04,398 infections while the active load has shot up to 27,964 cases.

Oxygen audit to track Goa's pandemic needs

In a bid to tackle the high COVID surge in Goa, the state officials are augmenting and facilitating new resources every day. From COVID care facilities, medical supplies and even life support essentials, the state health department is expanding Goa's medical treatment boundaries rapidly. These also include the supply of liquid medical oxygen.

A crucial support facility for critical COVID patients, Goa has pushed its generation limits and even imported LMO to meet the high demand amid the active spread. Consequently, the Prime Minister has directed the CM of Goa to conduct an oxygen audit when the two officials spoke about the pandemic management in Goa on Tuesday night, read reports.

"It is important to know how much oxygen is generated, how much oxygen we import from outside and how much requirement we have at the moment. I have given instruction. A team will be appointed to do the same," the Chief Minister added.

Adding on to the oxygen supply in Goa

In line with the same, the cabinet authority also informed about additional oxygen tanks and generation plants that will aid Goa to resolve the LMO shortage among COVID patients. In a tweet on Wednesday, he highlighted that a 5000 litres tank is providing medical-grade oxygen to the South Goa District Hospital, which is a dedicated coronavirus centre. "The 600 Liters Per Minute PSA oxygen plant is expected to be commissioned by May 15 2021", it further read.
