A 21st-century space for community
MoCA is the result of the collaborative efforts of Portugal’s Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), New Delhi. This museum carries out the restoration of ancient artworks and has a vast oeuvre on display which includes different styles and genres of painting, metalwork, textiles and sculptures, among other things, belonging to different periods of religious imagination.
Currently housed in the 400-year-old Santa Monica nunnery, MoCA has been built as a ‘people’s museum’ which aims at inviting dialogues, debates and sharing values. It gives credibility to researchers exploring relevant areas through its digital repository, academic press and other resources. Further, it also hosts workshops and similar events to highlight Goa’s plural outlook and publishes riveting narratives that draw on the Museum’s collection.

Allowing entry to a maximum of ten people at a time, MoCA is following covid safety protocols to ensure the safety of tourists, so book your tickets in advance. Take your time as you explore all the artworks showcased here, which are essentially, a slice of time preserved for generations to come. Also, don’t forget to document the names of the artworks that mesmerise you the most so that you can read about them later, anytime you want!
