Propelled by an unprecedented crisis and an alarming increase in severe patients, Goa has witnessed an amplified demand for medical-grade oxygen. In a bid to enhance the available facilities, an ‘oxygen on wheels’ service has been launched by the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa. Reportedly, the facility comes equipped with a total of five oxygen concentrators to provide instant relief to critical patients distressed by respiratory issues, escalated by the disease.
Initiative to support patients in rural and far-flung regions
Apart from the oxygen concentrators, the oxygen facility also contains two generators to ensure a guaranteed power supply. Besides this, required medicines have also been placed in the van to make sure that they are quickly available in times of need. Launched with an objective to alleviate the lags of transport and power, this mobile facility shall travel to the deep rural pockets in Goa assuring that no life is lost due to a dearth of oxygen.
When the pandemic was already taking a toll on Goa’s medical infrastructure, the cyclone further aggravated the situation, hampering the accessibility to needed care and support. Under such circumstances, patients are finding it difficult to navigate their ways to the hospitals and it is interventions like these, that can help them with required resources. Sourced from Mumbai, the van would cater to the patients in Quepem Taluka, Canacona, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Salcete reportedly.
The local authority expressed gratitude to the deputy CM for taking this measure. Unheard and neglected patients in rural and far-flung areas can avail of the facility by calling on the helpline number.
Goa COVID update
After towering peaks, the daily case tally in Goa has taken a downward trajectory now. With 1,401 new cases and 2,362 recoveries, the active patient count contracted to 16,278 on Monday. While 38 individuals lost their battle against the virus on Monday, a total of 2,421 lives have been lost in the state till now.
