Deriving its name by virtue of its location along the banks of the Gaglibag River, the Gaglibaga Beach is about a kilometre-long coastline in Canacona, South Goa, which can be best described as a hidden treasure. Untouched by the grips of commercialization and urbanisation, this beach is also one of the most scenic beaches in the coastal state. How to reach Gaglibaga Beach:
The Gaglibaga beach is located about 7km away from the popular Palolem Beach Resort, around 56km away from Colva and 54 km from Margao. The easiest way to reach here is to route through the NH17, which starts from the City of Chuadi and runs through the Galgibaga resort. Those who are all in for an adventure can also row through the Gaglibag river to reach here!
Like all the beaches along the western coast, the best time to visit here is during the winter season, which is accompanied by pleasant weather, soft sun and a calm sea. While monsoons are characterised by raging and ebbing swells of the sea, summers call for torrid temperatures, making the October to March stretch, the most ideal time to be here!
The enchanting vibes
Standing as one of the cleanest beaches in Goa, it is covered in dense green pine covers and an uneven convoluted sharp-ending topography where the Gaglibag river meets the Arabian Sea.
Besides this, the golden soft sand of this beach also forms the nesting grounds of Olive Ridley Turtles, a protected species, making it one of the three places in the entire state that are graced by their presence. Along with Agonda and Morjim, the northern nesting terrains of this beach fall under the state safety and preservation programme. This rare attribute gives the beach its alternative nickname of ‘The Turtle Beach’.

- Given its isolated location, this beach is not frequented by tourists and thus, the place does not a lot of shacks and other lodgings facilities. The ones in place offer you a decent range of menu at an affordable rate, but you can also pack a picnic basket and enjoy the day in the company of good food.
- The waters here are rough and not meant for swimming, stay close to the shoreline for a safe stay here.
- Do not go too close to the turtle nesting grounds as they fall under the state protection programme.
