Trial landing & navigational performance test successful at Mopa International Airport in Goa

The authorities of the GMR Goa International Airport, Mopa tested and validated the RNP procedure on the runway for its accuracy and flyability.

GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) announced the successful completion of the Required Navigational Performance (RNP) procedure for both the approaches (10 and 28) on the newly-built runway at the Mopa International Airport.

GGIAL further stated that the procedure was completed through an Airbus 320 aircraft from Indigo Airlines, equipped with RNP equipment, which successfully validated its flyability and accuracy, under the supervision of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

What is the RNP procedure?

RNP is a collection of navigation specifications under Performance Based Navigation (PBN), which permit and validate the operation of an aircraft accurately on a precise flight path.

The upcoming international airport of Goa has been developed in stages, with a single runway of about 3.5 km. The construction of the runway was recently completed after which it was deemed fit for testing of flight procedures.

Another addition to GMR's upcoming New Goa International Airport

The validation of the newly-built runway of the upcoming New Goa International Airport is the latest progression of the project. The upcoming airport is a project of GMR Airport Limited (GAL), which is a Greenfield Airport at Mopa, Goa based on the Public Private Partnership Model.

Furthermore, the new airport in Mopa will provide employment opportunities for the local youth of the state, and will leverage the tourism sector of the Goa.

Initially, the airport was planned to be inaugurated between August 15 to 30 which was delayed. As of now, officials have stated that the work on the airport will be finalized by October 23 this year, after which it will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister himself.
