Reportedly, Mumbai observed a COVID tally higher than 1,167 previously on 28 October 2020. In addition to this, it is alarming to note that Mumbai's COVID count has passed the 1000 mark after a period of 88 days. According to reports, the Chief Minister of the state has instructed the Minister of Skill Development to accelerate testing and accentuate the process of tracing suspected individuals. Recently, the state cabinet conducted a meeting where issues of soaring COVID cases and the ongoing inoculation drives were addressed and measures in this direction were deliberated upon.

As per reports, a member of the COVID task force stated that the next 10 days are going to be crucial for the city given the multiplying number of cases and increasing fatalities seen in the past weeks. It is notable to recognise that the fatality rate (1.7%) has been low for the city in spite of the prevailing circumstances. As per the information entailed in the reports, the average number of COVID cases stood at 3,347 for February, marking a significant rise from the count of 2,973, recorded in January.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1928181993792414" data-ad-slot="7448307427" data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

After an interval of more than a month, Dharavi recorded a double-digit count of COVID cases standing at 10, as per the data given by BMC. At least 3 states in the country have been affected by two strains of the COVID virus, one of which is Maharashtra. While there is no evidence to link the fresh spread of infections with the new strains, the state is keeping a stringent eye on all new developments amid the pandemic.

Renewed acceleration in COVID numbers across the state of Maharashtra
