Dr Ratnesh Sinha’s new book, “The Psychological Revolution”, has the answer beyond IQ and EQ

Twelve years, twelve quotients, one manifesto for what it means to be whole.

There’s a good chance you’ve spent your whole life being measured by one number. School report cards, entrance exams, that one aunty who still asks about your percentage. Intelligence, for most of us, has always meant IQ. Then Emotional Intelligence entered the chat somewhere along the way, and we all nodded along, convinced we’d finally cracked the code to being a “complete” human being.

Have we though? If IQ and EQ were really the whole story, wise, grounded, genuinely good humans would be a lot more common than they are. That’s the question Lt Col (Dr) Ratnesh Sinha, Retd, has spent the better part of his adult life sitting with, and his answer is about to show up on Panaji bookshelves.

About The Author

Before he was writing about human potential, Dr Sinha was busy living several lifetimes’ worth of material for it. Twenty-three years in the Indian Army, where he saw up close what character looks like when everything is on the line, how discipline, resilience, and leadership actually get built under pressure rather than talked about in a seminar room. The years after uniform took him into corporate and academic leadership, where he kept running into the same lesson from a different angle: talent and intelligence on their own were never enough to explain who thrives and who doesn’t.

He’s trained as a counselling psychologist, holds a doctorate in the field, and today wears more hats than most people manage in a career. He’s CEO of Bhonsale Knowledge City and Commandant of Yashwantrao Bhonsale Sainik School in Sawantwadi. He founded and chairs the Gleeman Foundation, which works on social well-being and character building. He’s also the Patron Editor of Bureaucracy India, where he writes on governance, psychology, and public leadership.

Publicly, he writes and speaks as “The Mind Monk”, a name that points at exactly the thing his work is built on: inner discipline paired with outer service.

All of it, the uniform, the classroom, the consulting room, feeds into MindnMatter, the platform he founded to bring his ideas on human development to students, educators, professionals, and institutions.

The Book That’s Been Twelve Years In The Making: “The Psychological Revolution”

Here’s the actual headline. The Psychological Revolution: A Manifesto for Human Excellence is forthcoming from Jaico Publishing House, and it’s the culmination of a question that followed Dr Sinha across every chapter of his career: if intelligence doesn’t determine who thrives, what does?

His answer is the Human Quotients Framework, or HQF: twelve interlinked quotients that together attempt to map what actually makes a person excellent, resilient, and whole. IQ handles cognitive reasoning, EQ covers emotional awareness and regulation. SQ, the spiritual quotient, works as the aligning force tying the other eleven together. AQ is about adversity and resilience, LQ is leadership, PQ is potential, the will to become something more. MQ is moral clarity, SoQ is social connectedness, CrQ is creative and divergent thinking, LvQ is love in its more selfless, unconditional sense. HuQ is humility and ego discipline, and WiQ, wisdom, sits at the top, deciding whether everything else actually gets applied at the right moment.

The book itself runs across seven parts and roughly 51,000 words. It opens by naming where our IQ- and EQ-obsessed institutions, schools, armies, corporations, quietly fail people, before tracing the framework’s older roots through the Upanishads, the Gita, and the Yoga Sutras. From there, it lays out a five-stage developmental pathway, with daily disciplines for building each quotient. Dr Sinha has described intelligence as telling us what a person can compute, without saying much about whether they’ll keep a promise, recover from loss, or lead others with integrity, and that gap is really what the whole book is arguing into.

Manifesto is the more accurate word for it than self-help. The subtitle doesn’t hide that either.

The Bigger Picture

Dr Sinha is bringing all of it together on Friday, 21 August, at The Black Box, Kala Academy, Panaji, from 4 PM, with Hon’ble Shri Laxmikant Parsekar, former Chief Minister of Goa, as Chief Guest. The evening marks the formal unveiling of The Psychological Revolution alongside the launch of the YouTube channel and a first look at the MindnMatter app. Two more accessible, more everyday mediums meant to help his community stay closer to the work and engage with it on a regular basis, not just through the book.

What makes Dr Sinha’s work worth paying attention to isn’t just the résumé, impressive as it is. It’s how coherent the whole project feels: twenty-three years of military discipline, a career’s worth of clinical observation, and centuries-old philosophy, distilled into one framework and then built out into something people can actually read, watch, and measure themselves against.

Whether or not all twelve quotients hold up under scrutiny, the underlying question is hard to shake off: if intelligence and emotional skill aren’t enough to explain human excellence, what is?

Panaji gets the first answer on 21 August.
