IIT Hyderabad extends BTech in Computer Science degree to students of humanities stream

Students from non-sciences backgrounds will have the opportunity to seek admission in the engineering institute for the first time ever in India.

The evolving landscape of education calls for periodic enhancements to the country's educational framework. As a result, a significant augmentation has been introduced, allowing students from humanities and social science backgrounds to pursue computer science engineering at IIT Hyderabad.

This groundbreaking initiative marks the first time in India that students from non-sciences backgrounds will have the opportunity to seek admission in the engineering institute through a specialized program, provided that they have good grades in math.

For this, the esteemed institute will offer a dual degree course in computer science, providing students with a BTech in computer science in the computing and human sciences (CHS) field. To be eligible for this unique admission opportunity, candidates must have obtained excellent scores in their Class 12 Board exams.

To qualify for the BTech program in CHS (Computing and Human Sciences) field, candidates must have a minimum of 85% in mathematics and should have studied one of the following subjects: History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, English Elective or Sociology.

IIT-H's introduction of a BTech course tailored for humanities students creates new possibilities for other public and private institutes to follow suit. This initiative enhances opportunities for non-science students, opening doors to a wider range of educational pathways and augmenting their prospects in various fields.
