India logs more recoveries than fresh COVID cases on Wednesday; active caseload marks a decline!

Witnessing a marginal increase in daily figures, India marked 2,86,384 fresh cases of coronavirus on Wednesday. However, as per the data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, India's active caseload has marked a slight decline at 22,02,472 cases. Meanwhile, at a recovery rate of 93.33%, a total of 3,06,357 patients marked their recovery on Wednesday, taking the cumulative tally to 3,76,77,328 recoveries. Notably, while the country's daily case count marked a slight decline on Wednesday, the daily positivity rate reported a jump from 16% to 19.59%. Additionally, the weekly positivity rate in the country also jumped to 17.75%. With 573 fatalities recorded on Wednesday, the total death toll in the country has climbed to 4,91,700 cases, as of January 26. Reportedly, ever since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 72.21 crore tests have been conducted in the country. Out of these, a total of 14,62,261 tests were administered on Wednesday, alone.

Moreover, with the addition of more than 22 lakh doses of vaccine administered on Wednesday, the countrywide vaccination coverage has reached 163.84 crore doses. As per official data, around 72% of the eligible adult population of the country is fully vaccinated now. Apart from this, around 52% of the adolescents belonging to the 15-18 age group have also received at least a single jab against COVID, so far.

With the highest number of cases and deaths at 72,906,511 and 876,052, respectively, the United States of America continues to be the worst-hit country by COVID while India stands in the next position with 40,085,116 infections and 491,127 deaths. Brazil holds the third position in this list of countries that have faced the blow of this pandemic with 24,560,093 infections and 624,717 deaths, so far.
