With 156 new cases, India records the highest single-day spike in Omicron infections on Monday!

According to official data, 21 states and union territories across India have reported cases of this new variant of COVID

With the third wave of COVID knocking on the door, India registered the highest single-day spike in Omicron infections on Monday. According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, 156 fresh cases of this variant of concern were reported in the country on Monday, while another 75 cases have been added to the list in the last 24 hours. Apart from this, a total of 6,358 new cases of COVID have been registered across the country in the last 24 hours, read the press release by the Press Information Bureau.

With the additions marked yesterday, India's active caseload of coronavirus infection currently stands at 75,456. A total of 6,450 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours across the country taking the total recoveries count to 3,42,43,945. While the rising Omicron cases raise an alarm for all, the recovery rate of the country at 98.40% - the highest since March 2020, shows a feeble sign of relief.

With the Omicron variant said to spread at an alarming rate, India has marked more than 500 cases of this variant in a month's time. Going by the official data, Maharashtra has reported 167 cases, which is the maximum number of Omicron infections in the country at present whereas Delhi stands at the second number with 165 Omicron cases. Reportedly, a total of 21 states and union territories across India have reported a total of 653 Omicron infections. However, as per the daily bulletin by PIB, 186 Omicron patients have marked their recovery in the country as of now.
