Kendriya Vidyalayas to give admission to children orphaned due to COVID

In a bid to offer extended support to people affected by the COVID pandemic, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has decided to give admission to children who have lost both parents due to the coronavirus in the last two years. Launched under the ambit of the PM Cares for Children Scheme, this move aims to ensure children who have lost their parents to this deadly disease complete their basic schooling.

As per the admission guidelines released by the KVS, children orphaned due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be considered for admission over and above the class strength. It must be noted that this scheme is also applicable to children who have lost their adoptive parents or legal guardians due to COVID in the last two years.

This admission for classes I-XII will be done on the basis of the list given by the District Magistrate which will include not more than 10 children per branch including a maximum of 2 children per class, read the guidelines.

Notably, there are 13 branches of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Lucknow. As per the maximum capping of 10 children per branch, a total of 130 children can avail of this scheme in the city.

While speaking to Knocksense, an officer from the Admission Cell of Kendriya Vidyalaya( Aliganj, Lucknow) revealed that these children will be exempted from payment of Tuition fees, Computer funds and Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi fees throughout their schooling.

The objective of this Scheme is to empower children through education and offer them a chance to evolve and improve themselves. As a consequence, this will open avenues for opportunities in the future which will help them in overcoming chronic and inter-generational poverty.
