Indian women skipper Mithali Raj created history by going past 20,000 career runs during the India-Australia ODI match at the Harrup Park in Mackay on September 21. With a knockoff of around 61 runs from 8 overs, she marked an outstanding performance, taking her team to bag 225/8 in the assigned 50 overs. Even though India started well, the batting lineup stumbled a little against the Australian ambush. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana hit off the game as a powerful duo bagging 31 runs within the first four overs. However, Australia roared back as Darcie Brown dismissed both athletes by the sixth over, breaking the btop-order batting edge of India.

A striking partnership was yet again brewed by Yastika Bhatia and skipper Mithali Raj to claim another 77 runs for team India The sportswomen creased the field until the fall of 3rd wicket when Australia's Brown broke dismissed Bhatia, at her individual score of 35, in the 26th over.

Post Bhatia, Deepti Sharma added 9 runs to the score of 129, before falling out in the hands of Brown in the 31st over. After Mithali's dismissal, Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar ramped the field and India had to make peace with a score of 225/8.

61 runs in 107 balls for Mithali Raj

Even though Mithali knocked off 61 runs in 107 balls before getting stumped by Sophie Molineux in the 38th over, her strike rate became the talk of the town. Tuesday's inning further helped the Indian ODI captain to hold on to the number one spot in the ICC Women's ODI Rankings for batters. Mithali currently retains the top spot with 762 points.
