In view of the limited stocks of COVID vaccine, district health authorities in Indore have decided that first dose immunisation will not be allowed to citizens above 45 on Saturday. Relevant directives in this regard were given a day after the Covishield inoculation for the people in this age group was canceled for May 13 and 15. As per the latest reports, the second dose will be administered today but the first dose will not be allowed.
Vaccine crunch causing a lot of worries for the city folks
The recent decisions were taken after a significant crunch in vaccines was reported. While people are receiving messages for their second dose on the app, they are finding it difficult to procure the vaccine at the right time. Reportedly, Indore now has only 5,000 and 28,000 Covishield and Covaxin doses respectively and this has prompted authorities to take the current steps.
Though inoculation program for citizens above 18 started in Indore in line with the national launch, vaccination drives have been far below sufficient mark. Given the marginal number of slots that open up intermittently, people are facing a lot of problems to avail of the benefits of vaccination. In addition to this, citizens who are waiting for their second dose are also surrounded by uncertainties.

Increasing the count of active patients to 18,067, 1,577 new cases were recorded in Indore on Thursday. While 1,015 recoveries were marked, 9 individuals succumbed to the fatal virus on the same day. As of now, 1,33,284 citizens have been hit by the contagion in Indore, making it the most affected district of Madhya Pradesh.
