IMC demolishes temporary establishments by vendors and hawkers at 3 locations in Indore

Removal of vegetable sellers and hawkers from roads and public spaces in Indore continues in Feb.

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) removed vegetable vendors and their encroached stalls and carts from Krishnapura Chhatri to Jawahar Marg (Nandlapura Road) and Itwaria Bazaar on Thursday, February 3. These illegal establishments were the reason behind the unwanted crowding and capturing of roads and parking spots in these areas.

Truckloads of material seized

About 25 sheds and shops were removed from Krishnapura Chhatri to Jawahar Marg and Palda Naka to Nayta Mundla. In addition to that, 20 hand carts were also seized. In the Itwaria Bazaar area, over 20 vegetable vendors were removed. Building material like tin sheets, wood, etc. filled four trucks from Itwaria Bazaar. The problem of vendors and hawkers blocking roads and other spaces has been persisting for a long time in Indore. Last month, these illegal setups by vegetable sellers were removed between Bajrang Square and Patnipur. The removal from this area was carried out with the cooperation of the vendors.

IMC Deputy Commissioner, Lata Agrawal confirmed that a total of 98 vendors were relocated under Rajkumar Railway Overbridge to carry out their businesses without being an obstruction. Commuters on vehicles were greatly relieved by the relocation.

However, vendors displayed some altercations and backlash towards the officials during the similar removals in the Malwa Mill and Rajkumar Mill areas. An FIR was also lodged by Assistant Revenue Officer, Jitendra Pandey in Tukoganj Police Station against some shop owners who acted out and manhandled him during removal. Vendors from these areas were shifted under the Rajkumar Railway Over Bridge as well.
