Indore is the only city in Madhya Pradesh that has been chosen for the LAP provision.
Earlier this year, designated officials and senior authorities of Madhya Pradesh identified the potential of growth and development in the state, particularly in Indore. Soon enough, Indore was added to the list of Atal Mission For Rejuvenation And Urban Transformation (AMRUT) cities, under the urban development project of the central government.
A Local Area Plan (LAP) was constituted for Indore's development, within the scope of the Smart City Mission to introduce various town planning schemes. Reportedly, this plan received the Union's nod on September 6 and since then, various development projects are going on in full swing here.
What does the Local Area Plan (LAP) entail?
The Indore Municipal Corporation officials informed that Indore is the only city in Madhya Pradesh that has been chosen for the LAP provision. As per reports, this programme will supervise and regulate the redevelopment of existing regions of the city in an efficient and coordinated manner.
Considered as a means to revamp the city, the LAP was adapted to flourish the urban areas of Indore. The project has been introduced under the umbrella of Indore's Development Plan of 2021, which was framed in accordance with the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Town and Country Planning Act, 1973.
The Smart City Development Scheme
The Smart City Mission was launched by the central government in June '15 with the vision to design 'Smart' solutions for a hygienic and sustainable environment. The scheme also aims to improvise the living standards of the residents of Indore, in general, and the country at large.
After being recognised as a city eligible for the 'Smart City Development' scheme, over 150 hectares of land has been sanctioned in Indore for the Area Based Development (ABD) project of the state.
