The coronavirus pandemic has gripped the district of Indore, marking it off as one of the most adversely hit city in Madhya Pradesh. However, the new year brings in new troubles for Indore as an avian epidemic targets the city as well. About 50 crows, who fell dead in the city about three days ago have tested positive for bird flu. This has alerted the civic health officials of approaching troubles, amid covid spread.
Indore faces the troubles of H5N8 bird flu virus
“Nearly fifty crows were found dead on the campus of Daly College on Tuesday. Some of the carcasses were sent for tests to Bhopal. They were found to be carrying the H5N8 virus,” Indore Chief Medical and Health Officer told sources. Health authorities in the city have now launched an intensive drive to identify individuals with the suspected symptoms of birch glue in the area.
A survey is being conducted to trace those with cold, cough and fever in the radius of five kilometres in the plush residential area where the college is situated, the Chief Medical Officer added. Swab sampling is underway, and testing of suspected patients will be carried out.
The deputy director of Indore veterinary service stated that on Friday, 20 more crows were found dead on the premises of Daly College. The reports of this new lot are underway testing.
COVID-19 in Indore
Reporting its lowest tally in 43 days, Indore’s COVID-19 tally clocked a total of 219 new infections on the first day of this year, pushing the aggregate caseload of the city beyond the 55,137 mark. Growing at a rate of 0.4%, the active caseload of coronavirus has been limited to a total of 2,906 patients with the assistance of a high 93.1% recovery rate. Since its outbreak in April, 2020, the Indore’s recuperative totals stand at 51,345 patients and a 1.5% case fatality ratio.
