Despite a continuous decline in the number of new COVID cases in Indore, the district health authorities have decided to not shut the Radha Soami COVID care centre, in anticipation of the ‘third wave’. As per reports, the facility is presently operating with only 6 patients to ensure a ready set-up when the expectant wave hits. Touted to be the biggest in Madhya Pradesh, the Radha Soami COVID care centre has the capacity of handling 1200 patients. As of now, only one block is functional.
Number of staffers & beds reduced at Radha Soami Centre in Indore
The Indore district authorities have successfully managed to curb the rate of coronavirus spread across the state as inferred from the dropping number of patients here. This has had a direct impact on the operation of COVID facilities in town, especially the primary one at the Radha Soami Centre. As accounted by the centre-in-charge, the care centre was nursing with 11 cases until last week. Presently, only six patients – in one block are receiving treatment here. Other blocks were shut down in a phase-wise manner, the official added.
Meanwhile, the staff strength has also been reduced by 90% amid decreased case and workload. This step has been undertaken to manage resources smartly and avoid wastage. At the infection peak, around 250 people were deployed here to tackle the case surge.
Shouldering the load off hospitals
Several systems of COVID care centres were dismantled in Indore before the onset of the second wave when the caseload was relatively low. It was later realised that the CCCs could help in a big way to shoulder the weight of hospitals, with a fixed bed capacity. Therefore, when the Radha Soami centre was set up during the second wave peak, it was decided that this centre will continue to operate at least until the third wave.
As per reports by TOI, RSSB centre has so far helped to manage over 1200 patients in Indore. It also has a post-COVID-19 centre, which has helped in the diagnosis and treatment of 2500 people dealing with post-infection conditions.
