Indore has yet again made a statement of excellent environmental protection module by bagging the title of the first ‘Water Plus’ city of India. The honour has been awarded under Swachh Survekhshan 2021, an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns, across the nation. The survey programme is presently running its 5th edition, under the banner of the Union’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

After winning the titular certificate of the Swachh Survekshan for four years now, Indore now boasts of being a ‘Water Plus’ city too. Reportedly, the district municipal authorities worked on the 1,746 public and 5,624 domestic sewer outfalls, in 25 small and big nullahs here, as per the Water Plus Protocol guidelines of Swachh Survekshan.
The IMC tapped these units and also freed River Kanh and River Saraswati from sewer lines, the Indore District Collector, Manish Singh, informed. Further, the Indore Civic Commissioner added that 7 sewage treatment plants have been constructed in the city and about 110 million litres per day (MLD) of treated water from these, is being used currently.
As per the guidelines of the Water Plus Protocol, Indore was upgraded with 147 special types of urinals. Cleaning work at ponds, wells and all water bodies were also executed here, the commissioner added.

While congratulating the citizens for the city’s newest designation, the MP Chief Minister tweeted that Indore will set an example for the whole nation for its dedicated determinations towards cleanliness. He further hoped for the glory of the state and district.
