The Ministry of Uraban Housing and Urban Affairs released the results of the world’s largest cleanliness survey, the Swachh Survekshan on Thursday, crowning Madhya Pradesh’s Indore as the cleanest city in India for the fourth time in a row. Surat and Navi Mumbai ranked as second and third in the list.

The results of the 5th edition of the cleanliness survey were announced during the Swachh Mahotsav that was conducted on Thursday, where Indore created history by winning the title award for the 4th consecutive year. The city was registered in over 1 lakh population category. The Minister of Uraban Housing and Urban Affairs congratulated the citizens for their phenomenal win and acknowledged their dedication to keep their city clean.

This cleanliness survey is the largest and widest annual hygienic poll in the world which is conducted under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It has accounted the response of 1.9 crore citizens across 4242 cities, 62 Cantonment Boards and 97 Ganga towns in India. A total of 198 awards were announced during this ceremony where Madhya Pradesh also bagged the title of the best performing state with less than 100 cities. Chhattisgarh won the best state title in the over 100 cities category.
While Karad, Saswad, and Lonavala of Maharashtra won the cleanest city awards for a population of less than 1 lakh, the award for the cleanest Ganga town was given to Varanasi. Check the list to see which award did your city win in the Swachh Survekshan 2020 here.
