Popularly called the “Ghazal King”, Jagjit Singh was one of the most adored ghazal singers, composers and musicians in the country. Gaining popularity around the 70s and 80s Jagjit Sing sang with his wife Chitra Singh, another popular singer. The HMV (music company) album which has both of their songs is the highest selling HMV album of all time. Often credited with the revival of the lost art of ghazal and poetry in mainstream music, Jagjit Singh gave his voice to hundreds of songs for Bollywood movies and popular albums.

His albums and song are wildly loved and he was considered one of the most influential artists in the country. He passed away on September 23 2011, following his UK tour and left the country bereft of his dulcet voice.
