Cecelia Ahern said that age is just a number and to prove her right, here is Akanksha Vyavahare, a 14 years old weightlifter from Pune, Maharashtra with multiple gold medals up her sleeve. But that not it, after setting several national records in her weight category, Akanksha, who is a part of the TOPS Development List, is all set to debut in the Khelo India Youth Games 2022, Madhya Pradesh.
Akanksha Vyavahare has achieved a lot at a young age
Last year turned out to be a landmark for this player. In 2022, Akanksha set 6 national records in the 40 kg category and won gold at Odisha Nationals and Patiala Nationals. Furthermore, she won silver at an international event in Mexico and bronze at the Asian Youth and Junior Championship.
At present, she holds a national record of 60 kg in snatch and 71 kg in clean and jerk, and a national record of 131 kg in the 40 kg category. Like most sport champions, this 14-years-old weight lifter desires to win a medal for her country following the footsteps of Indian Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu. Currently, our star player is busy practising for the Khelo India Competition at SAI Regional Centre, Aurangabad. This being her first Khelo India tournament, it will be fun to watch if she manages to break her own national records.
The Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), 2022 is scheduled to be held in Madhya Pradesh from January 30 to 11, 2023. It will be the fifth edition of the flagship event under the government of India's Khelo India initiative, which promotes sports at the grassroots levels in the country.
