Biggest chess tournament in the history of Indore to begin from April 1

Grandmasters from 20 countries are set to play tricks in Indore.

The biggest chess tournament in the history of Madhya Pradesh will be held in Indore from April 1. This will be the biggest chess tournament in the state in terms of prize money, in which ₹33 lakh will be at stake. Hosted by the local Emerald Heights School, the grandeur of the event can be gauged from the fact that Grand Master and International Master from 20 countries are participating in it.

The tournament will be played from April 1 to 8 and around 250 selected players will participate in this.

Competition will be held in two categories

As per officials, around 250 player with more than 1800 Elo rating have been selected to participate in the 1st Mayor's Trophy International Grandmaster Chess Tournament from April 1-8. The prize money for this competition is ₹21 lakh.

Meanwhile, almost 500 players with rating less than 1800 Elo will compete in the Challenger Tournament from April 3-6.

Veterans players from around the world are coming to participate

Grandmaster Mikhail Krasankov from Poland is coming to Indore for the tournament. Additionally, veterans like Mikhail Mikheshashvili from Georgia, MR Lalit Babu from India will be seen at the event. 

This is great opportunity for chess players based in Indore or Madhya Pradesh to understand how big players handle pressure moments, how to start and when to attack. Given the high profile players coming to attend the event, Madhya Pradesh is keeping strict tabs on security and conduct. As per reports, the total expenditure of this tournament is about ₹1.5 crores.
