The Indian Institute of Management, Indore recently joined the Global Great Backyard Bird Count 2024 (GBBC) organized by Cornell University and the Audubon Society in the USA.
During the event, IIM Indore documented a total of 40 bird species observed across its 193-acre campus. This participation was part of the Campus Bird Count sub-event of the GBBC, which took place from February 16 to 19, 2024.
Several rare & common avian species catalogued during the bird watch
Students, staff, and professors from IIM Indore collaborated to document the bird species found on campus.
During the birdwatching activities, they spotted several birds, including the Indian Peafowl, Gray Francolin, Laughing Dove, Greater Coucal, Asian Koel, Asian Palm Swift, Green Sandpiper, Indian Pond-Heron, Asian Green Bee-eater, Coppersmith Barbet, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Small Minivet, Common Iora, White-browed Fantail, Black Drongo, Common Tailorbird, Ashy Prinia, Red-vented Bulbul, and others.

IIM Indore: A sanctuary for flourishing flora and fauna
The vast expanse of the green campus at IIM Indore is adorned with lush greenery, comprising numerous patches of trees and gardens. The campus authorities are dedicated to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for birds by strategically installing bird feeders and bowls.
Over the years, the campus has documented an impressive count of 70 bird species thriving within its grounds. Moreover, IIM Indore boasts a rich diversity of fauna, including eight distinct snake species, as well as a plethora of butterflies and insects, adding to the vibrant ecosystem of the institute.
