Centre of Excellence for sanitization and waste management to come up at IIM-Indore
In order to encourage cleanliness and hygienic measures, IIM-Indore will soon establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for sanitization and waste management at the campus. To achieve this, the premier management institute signed an MoU with the Union Minister of Urban and Housing Affairs on September 29.
It will ensure the successful establishment of CoE at IIM-Indore, which will offer apex leadership and training for managing sanitation and taking care of waste initiatives in urban India.
CoE: Imparting knowledge on waste management
Under the MoU, IIM Indore received a grant of ₹19.95 crores that will be utilised to set up a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence. It will be designed to prepare a blueprint and implement training and development courses in sanitization and waste management.
Urban sanitization and Waste management are two pressing issues of efficient urban infrastructure. Courses developed by market specialists, strategists and environmentalists can strengthen the abilities of civic officials to carry out efficient sanitation and waste management works.
There have been Centres of Excellence earlier too, but when they take a ‘Swachhata Dimension’ and start providing the highest of academic rigor, we realize that we are on the way to Aatmnirbhar Bharat.

Additionally, CoE will also offer full-time and part-time programmes relevant to public policies, urban governance, and shake up management for administrators, managerial and executive cadre, and front-line employees of corporations and local bodies.
Acting as a bridge between civic bodies and local bodies, businesses, and service organizations CoE will also set up an incubation centre in collaboration with IIT Indore. Under the agreement, MoHUA will aid the CoE for a period of three years.
