A forest was planted using the Miyawaki method at Indore’s Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), nearly a month ago. Spread across an area of an acre, the forest included endangered trees from in and around Indore. It is noteworthy that a total of 8175 saplings were planted as part of the initiative.
Drones to solve the monitoring problem
Due to the abundant biodiversity in the region, monitoring all the planted trees in the forest was quickly becoming a massive problem. But that problem has now been tackled head on as drones will now be used to monitor the growth of each and every tree. The drones will likely be equipped with cameras and sensors to provide information on trees from an aerial viewpoint. This can also aid in researching various trees, their characteristics and learning more about them.
The students at the institute are currently working to develop these new drones, which will be capable of monitoring this one-acre Miyawaki forest in the heart of Indore. Notably, this new drone will be prepared on a budget of somewhere between ₹70,000 and ₹2,00,000.
